After reading all of the reviews, I decided to look at the instructions before committing to assemble it myself. And then I hired my handyman. It took him about 2+ hours and I could NEVER have done it myself. The instructions were frequently opaque, but those pertaining to the lift mechanism and insert were simply absurd. He and I worked out how to set it up, and are, after all that, delighted with the result.
The door is indeed bowed, but minimally so, and it works fine. The knob, as noted, will be replaced immediately. The finish is perfectly adequate, and blends in nicely with my other oak and walnut finished furniture. I wish that the door storage had been more cleverly set up to hold more frequent use items, but I may be able to make some changes to the setup to better meet my needs.
All in all, I am quite happy with the purchase and look forward to using it for years.

The front door in this product is "bowed". The manufacturer admits this defect and say's it's unavoidable and a part of the manufacturing process. The bowed door does not prohibit you from using the table, but beware that when you recieve it and put the door on last, it will not lay flush against the frame. Funny how that is not shown in any pictures or specs on the table!
PS - The manufacturer is sending me a new door, one that is "less bowed", but still bowed nonethless.

Bought for our daughter for Christmas. Attractive. Perfect for her bedroom or to wheel out anywhere. Took about two hours for my husband to assemble. No pieces missing. No damaged parts. Nice hydraulic lift. Great working concept.

I selected this sewing cabinet because I have an older (metal, not plastic) sewing machine. This mechanism looked to be the sturdiest and it was. My sewing machine is supported very well. The instruction manual was very clear although I had to purchase the adjustable wrenches since my tool kit is very basic. It looks well in my sewing room

Screws low grade, some broke in predrilled holes.
With better screws should be fine.
